There are two syncing agents [[Entra Connect Sync]] and Entra Cloud Sync.
* [[Entra Connect Sync]] (AD Connect)
* 1 agent per EntraID tenant
* Forests must be connected
* No active/active HA
* 30 minute sync cycle
* [[Entra Cloud Sync]]
* Multiple agents
* Active/active HA for Password Hash Sync
* Multiple disconnected forests
* No EntraID Hybrid join
* 2 minute sync cycle
> [!My Opinion]
> I believe AD Connect still has a place, especially for [[Entra Hybrid Join]]. However, since you can run both agents on the same tenant Cloud Sync makes sense on BDCs for higher availability password hash syncing.
