## Preparing a Third-Party Camera 1. Reference the OEM user manual for instructions on how to set up a specific camera. Generic steps are provided below.  2. Connect the camera to the network and lookup the camera IP address in the UniFi Network app.  3. In your browser, navigate to the camera’s local web server.  4. Log in to the camera with default credentials and configure a username and password.  5. Check if the camera requires a firmware update. Apply any updates available. 6. Enable ONVIF in the camera and configure an ONVIF username and password. This is enabled automatically on some cameras and the global username and password are used. 7. Configure the date, time, and timezone on the camera. Some cameras will fail authentication if the time is not set correctly. 1. If applicable, ensure the authentication is set to `Digest&ws-username token` ## Adopting Third-Party Cameras in UniFi Protect 1. Open UniFi Protect and go to _Settings > System_.  2. Enable **Discover Third-Party Cameras**. 3. Navigate to the UniFi Devices page. Third-party cameras should appear in the list ready for adoption.  4. Select **Click to Adopt** 5. In the popup, enter the previously configured camera credentials.  6. If the authentication is successful, the camera will be added to the UniFi devices list and the stream will appear in the Dashboard.  ## Camera Functionality 1. Motion detections, PTZ control, Audio, and other advanced features are not supported on third party cameras.  2. The Protect application automatically detects the highest and lowest quality streams provided by the camera. These are shown as HQ and LQ within Protect.  1. LQ is used for multi views and when switched to LQ.  2. HQ is used for HQ liveview and playback. 3. The streams are configured in the third party camera setup tool. If the streams are adjusted after adopting, the camera must be removed and re-added to Protect to see the updates. # Compatibility I have had to enable H.264 on some Dahua models (N42DJS2), I think the NVR just has to be rebooted. In the past I had removed and re-added all the affected cameras, but I do not think this is necessary.
