Feature updates release in the second half of the calendar year and come with 24 months of support for Home, Pro, Pro for Workstations, and Pro Education editions; 36 months of support for Enterprise and Education editions. Windows 11 also releases [monthly security updates](https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/windows-it-pro-blog/windows-monthly-updates-explained/ba-p/3773544) on the second Tuesday of each month. These releases are cumulative, containing all previous updates to keep devices protected and productive.

Beginning with [[Windows 10]], version 21H2, feature updates for Windows 10 release are released annually, in the second half of the calendar year, to the General Availability Channel. They will be serviced with monthly quality updates for 18 or 30 months from the date of the release, depending on the lifecycle policy.

Beginning in September 2023, [[Windows Server]] has two primary release channels available: the Long-Term Servicing Channel (LTSC) and the Annual Channel (AC). The Long-Term Servicing Channel provides a longer-term option focusing on stability, whereas the Annual Channel provides more frequent releases. The [Windows Server Semi-Annual Channel (SAC)](https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-server/get-started/servicing-channels-comparison#semi-annual-channel) was retired on August 9, 2022.
